The Story

My Home Retrofit delivered a complete whole-house deep retrofit for a private residential property, combining fabric-first improvements, airtightness works, low-carbon heating, renewable energy systems, and full interior refurbishment.

The project was designed to significantly reduce energy demand, cut carbon emissions, and modernise the property to meet AECB CarbonLite and PAS2035 standards. A coordinated retrofit strategy was developed covering assessment, design, installation, commissioning, and ongoing evaluation.

All PAS2035 roles were undertaken in-house, including Retrofit Assessor, Retrofit Coordinator, Retrofit Designer, and Retrofit Evaluator, supported by our engineering, design, and project management teams to ensure integrated delivery, consistent quality, and full compliance.

Low-Carbon Heating System

A new 400mm airtight, vapour-controlled loft insulation build-up was installed to significantly reduce heat loss. Airtightness works were applied across the property, achieving an air permeability below 2.0 m³/m².h @ 50 Pa. Pre- and post-air tests were undertaken as part of our PAS2035 process.

Interior Remodelling

Comprehensive interior upgrades were completed to modernise the home and improve everyday usability. This included installing a new kitchen and bathroom, reworking the internal layout to create a better flow between spaces, and refining the lighting design to improve comfort and efficiency. Together these improvements elevated the property’s functionality, aesthetics, and long-term value.

Window Upgrades

Seven new triple-glazed windows were installed to reduce heat loss, minimise draughts, and improve overall thermal performance across the home.

Air Source Heat Pump

A new 6 kW MCS-certified air source heat pump was designed and installed to replace the existing fossil fuel boiler. The system provides both space heating and hot water through a high-efficiency setup designed for long-term reliability and low running costs.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating was installed across the ground floor to provide consistent, comfortable warmth. The system operates efficiently at low flow temperatures, making it an ideal pairing for the air source heat pump and helping to maximise overall heating performance.

Solar PV & Battery Storage

A 5 kWp MCS-certified solar PV system was installed alongside a 7 kWh battery storage unit to generate renewable electricity and maximise self-consumption. The system enables the home to use its own solar power during the day, store surplus energy for later use, and reduce reliance on the grid.

Conclusion

This project demonstrates the standard that is achievable in existing homes when low-carbon technologies, fabric performance and internal upgrades are delivered together as one coordinated package.

The result is a modern, efficient and future-proofed home with greatly improved comfort, reduced running costs, and lower carbon emissions, setting a benchmark example for what is possible in the private domestic sector through deep retrofit.
