The Story
My Home Retrofit worked with the homeowners of Bilsborrow to plan and deliver a package of energy efficiency upgrades that would improve comfort and reduce energy bills.
The process began with detailed surveys to assess the property’s existing condition and energy performance. Using this information, My Home Retrofit identified the most effective combination of improvements within the available budget, focusing on building fabric and ventilation measures that would make the biggest impact on comfort and heat loss.

Window Upgrades
36 brand new high-performance triple-glazed windows were installed to reduce draughts and improve heat retention throughout the home.
Air Tightness Upgrades
Targeted sealing around gaps, joints, and service penetrations helped reduce uncontrolled air leakage and improve the overall efficiency of the home.
Low Carbon Ventilation
Low energy ventilation units were fitted to maintain healthy air quality while supporting improved airtightness and reducing condensation risk.
Mechanical and Electrical Design
Our engineers reviewed the existing heating and electrical systems to make sure the new upgrades worked efficiently with what was already in place.
Cavity and Loft Insulation
Cavity wall and loft insulation were added to cut heat loss through the building’s walls and roof, keeping warmth in for longer and reducing heating demand.
Conclusion
The Bilsborrow Vicarage project demonstrates how focused, fabric-first retrofit can significantly improve the performance of existing Church estate homes without the need for major system change or invasive renewables installation.
This project forms part of the Diocese of Blackburn’s wider decarbonisation pathway and contributes to improved comfort and long term energy efficiency across the estate.
